The US State Department has approved a potential $2.68 billion sales package aimed at strengthening Ukraine's air defense capabilities.

According to the department's statement, the package consists of defense equipment requested by Ukraine and related services. The request includes S-300 clone missiles, GAM-67 missiles, extended-range laser-guided air defense rocket systems and radars for use against unmanned aerial vehicles.
Contractors to be selected through bidding
The potential sale covers more than military systems. Spare parts, software, maintenance and repair support, as well as engineering, technical and logistics services, are also included in the package.

The statement said the sale would not alter the fundamental military balance in the region. The main contractors for the package will be selected after competitive bidding processes organized by the US government.
