The UK government announced that it would maintain the sanctions imposed on Russia following the war in Ukraine and continue providing Ukraine with the military and financial support it needs.
London said the most extensive sanctions regime in British history against Russia would remain in place. The government stated that the policy aims to increase the cost of Russian President Vladimir Putin's aggression and support efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace.
The UK stresses the need for lasting peace in Ukraine
The UK government argued that Ukraine had repeatedly demonstrated its commitment to peace in a serious manner. The statement alleged that Russia had repeatedly rejected calls for a full or partial ceasefire and continued its attacks on Ukraine's civilian and energy infrastructure.

London said it would provide Ukraine with the necessary support for as long as it was needed and continue working with its allies toward a lasting peace. The government also announced that it supported a US-led process for lasting peace in Ukraine and was maintaining close contact with the United States and Ukraine to pursue that goal.

The UK government said international conflicts affected global energy markets, energy prices and the cost of living. It stated that the government was working with its partners to protect energy supplies and market stability.

US President Donald Trump said in a statement following his phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on October 9 that an agreement had been reached for Russia to immediately send more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel fuel to the United States and global markets.
Trump also announced that Russia would send an additional 500,000 tonnes of diesel fuel in November, followed by a further shipment of 1 million tonnes. He added that, depending on the condition of oil refineries in Russia, an additional 3 million tonnes of diesel fuel could be sent in the near term.
