Speaking at the traditional Gillamoos Festival in Abensberg, Söder described Russia as a constant threat to Germany and Europe.
Söder said it was necessary to question whether the United States, which could previously be relied upon, was still standing alongside Germany today. He said he greatly admired the values represented by the United States but added that he could no longer understand some of Washington’s strategic decisions.
Söder said it was also uncertain whether the United States had enough ammunition to protect Germany and noted that Germany was therefore strengthening its armed forces. He stressed that the military was being strengthened more than ever before.
Söder said equipment alone would not be enough to protect freedom and that personnel were also necessary. He said everyone who loved their country and wanted to protect it should be ready to serve it.
