Russia's Health Ministry has introduced a new regulation to meet the psychological needs of oncology patients during treatment. The directive put into effect by the ministry grants adult cancer patients the right to psychological counseling.
According to the regulation, patients will be able to receive psychologist support on topics such as disease-related issues, the stress they experience, and adapting to treatment. Additionally, cancer patients exhibiting adjustment disorder, suicidal tendencies, or self-harm behavior will be provided with psychologist services within the scope of primary specialized medical care.
To implement this practice, a new unit will be added to the structure of oncology hospitals. In addition to existing oncologist, radiotherapist, and palliative care units, medical psychological counseling rooms will be established in hospitals.
