A significant convenience has been provided for couples undergoing IVF treatment in Russia. Preimplantation genetic screening of embryos is now performed free of charge under the compulsory health insurance (OMS) scheme.
Ilya Balanin, Chairman of the Federal Compulsory Health Insurance Fund (FFOMS), told RIA Novosti, "The costs of preimplantation genetic testing of embryos have been included in the IVF tariff to increase the chance of a healthy baby being born."
Balanin recalled that IVF under the OMS scheme has been available in Russia since 2013. The process requires completing necessary examinations, obtaining a doctor's referral, and submitting documents to a special commission. If the first attempt fails, couples can try once more.
According to information provided by the Fund Chairman, 104,000 IVF procedures were carried out in 2025 under regional OMS programs, and 12,600 under the basic OMS program run by federal clinics.
Balanin stated, "In 2025, 32,625 babies were born following IVF procedures. These figures show that state support for IVF treatment not only expands opportunities for Russian families but also has a tangible demographic impact."
