Russia's Foreign Ministry said ties with India had reached the level of a special and privileged strategic partnership, adding that relations between the two countries had endured for decades on the basis of friendship and trust.
In a statement issued in Moscow on October 3, the ministry said Russia and India advocated the democratization of international relations.

G20, BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation
The statement said the two countries were developing cooperation on international platforms, particularly within the G20, the United Nations, BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

Russia's Foreign Ministry recalled that the document on the special and privileged strategic partnership was signed during Russian President Vladimir Putin's state visit to India from October 2 to 5, 2000.
The ministry also cited remarks Putin made after the Russia-India talks in New Delhi on December 5, 2025. Putin said the two countries pursued independent foreign policies along their own paths.
