Russia's Defense Ministry announced that 371 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) sent by Ukraine were shot down by air defense systems overnight. The attacks took place on the night of July 31 to August 1.
According to the ministry's statement, the downed aircraft-type UAVs were neutralized over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Volgograd, Kursk, Rostov, and Tula regions, Krasnodar Krai, the Republic of Dagestan, Crimea, the Republic of Tatarstan, and the Azov and Black Seas.
Civilian injured in Rostov
Rostov Region Governor Yuriy Slyusar announced that approximately 150 UAVs were shot down in the region over the past 24 hours. Stating that air defense systems were activated in Taganrog, Rostov-on-Don, Gukovo, and a number of districts, Slyusar reported that a woman was injured in Gukovo.
The governor said, "The injured woman received medical treatment at the scene and did not need to be hospitalized. Residents of the house damaged by the falling UAV are staying at a temporary shelter." Slyusar stressed that the UAV threat continues and urged citizens to be cautious.
Russia struck Ukrainian port infrastructure
In a separate statement, Russia's Defense Ministry noted that the Russian Armed Forces attacked Ukraine's port infrastructure and naval vessels "used in the interests of the Ukrainian Armed Forces" on the evening of July 30.
The statement claimed that as a result of the attacks using air-launched high-precision weapons and UAVs, fuel tanks belonging to the Ukrainian military were hit at Odesa Port, and a dry cargo ship carrying military cargo was struck south of Odesa.
Ukraine's drone attacks intensify
Drone attacks on Russian territory have intensified since 2022, when the special military operation in Ukraine began. The Office of the President of Ukraine announced in August 2023 that the number of drone attacks on Russia would increase.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stated in March 2023 that the drones produced by his country were striking strategic targets in Russia, saying, "They are working at long range. Our long range is the real approach of security for everyone." Zelensky later announced that Ukrainian drones could reach distances of more than 3,000 kilometers.
In May 2023, a drone exploded over the Senate Palace in the Kremlin, and drones repeatedly struck the Moscow-City business center buildings in Moscow. Border regions such as Bryansk, Belgorod, Kursk, and Crimea are frequently targeted.
