Russia reacted strongly to repeated drone attacks on its diplomatic mission in Sweden. The Russian Foreign Ministry officially summoned Sweden's Ambassador to Moscow, Anna Kristina Terese Yuhannesson, following these incidents.
Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in a statement that the ambassador would be reminded of the Stockholm government's obligations under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and previously given security guarantees.
Repeated provocations
Zakharova stressed that Russia's embassy and personnel in Sweden are facing not only theoretical threats but concrete incidents involving drones. Noting that such cases occur regularly, Zakharova said, "This is not the first time. Swedish authorities have been regularly informed that these actions are unacceptable. Both legal and political assessments were needed, as well as measures to prevent their recurrence. But unfortunately, they keep repeating."
Russia's Embassy in Stockholm had earlier announced on its Telegram channel that a drone left a container filled with red paint on the embassy grounds. The embassy also reported that a second drone fell near the diplomatic mission building and was carrying an object resembling a mock explosive.
The Russian diplomatic mission described the incidents as a "provocation" and noted that such events have become systematic. The embassy once again reminded that under the Vienna Convention, the host country is obliged to ensure the security of foreign diplomatic missions.
Russia had previously sent a note to the Swedish Foreign Ministry regarding the incident. Russia's Ambassador to Stockholm, Sergey Belyayev, said Moscow expects timely information from Swedish authorities about the results of the investigation.
