European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that following Russia's intense air strikes on Ukraine, the country's urgent air defense needs will be addressed at NATO's summit in Ankara.
In a statement on the social media platform X, von der Leyen said, "Last night, the Russian regime blindly targeted civilians from the air, attacking the capital with more than 400 drones and missiles. Ukraine urgently needs more air defense systems."
The EU Commission President emphasized that this issue will be discussed at the NATO summit in Ankara, adding that the European Union has released the first 4 billion euro tranche of a 90 billion euro loan aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defense with advanced drone technologies.
Von der Leyen stated that further steps are planned soon, and that active work is underway to finalize the 21st sanctions package against Russia.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy had earlier announced that the Russian army attacked the country with 68 missiles and 351 drones the previous night.
