The Russian Defense Ministry announced that a combined attack launched by Ukraine on the night and morning of July 4, 2026 was thwarted by air defense systems.
According to the ministry's statement, Russian air defense forces destroyed more than 500 aerial targets during the night. These included 10 long-range "Flamingo" cruise missiles, 9 US-made HIMARS rockets in the Belgorod region, and 494 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The statement said, "On the night of July 4, 2026, the Kyiv regime attempted a combined attack on the territory of the Russian Federation using long-range Flamingo cruise missiles, US-made HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems, and long-range UAVs."
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was attempting to divert attention with this attack from the consequences of the Russian strike on military targets near Kyiv on July 2, 2026, and from the catastrophic collapse of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' defense in Konstantinovka, Donetsk region.
It was stated that the destruction of the aerial targets was carried out across all established air defense lines under the unified command of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) main command.
The ministry also claimed that in June alone, approximately 13,000 aerial targets were destroyed over Russian regions, and that the production and launch activities of these targets were carried out by military units and specialists from most European countries, including the UK, as well as other sponsors of the Kyiv regime.
The Russian Defense Ministry also pledged that Kyiv's attempt to "damage civilian targets of the Russian Federation" would be met with "appropriate response actions."
