Russia’s Defense Ministry said air defense units intercepted and destroyed 512 Ukrainian aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles in the airspace over various regions of the country and the Black Sea between 8:00 p.m. on August 27 and 8:30 a.m. on August 28.
According to the ministry, the drones were shot down over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Vladimir, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol, Penza, Rostov, Ryazan, Saratov, Tambov, Tula and Yaroslavl regions, as well as the Moscow region, Krasnodar Krai, Crimea and the Black Sea.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said two drones heading toward the capital were destroyed by an air defense system operated by Russia’s Defense Ministry.
Damage reported in the Moscow region
Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov said a drone struck a store in the city of Pavlovsky Posad. The blast’s shock wave damaged a nearby outpatient clinic.
Forty-six windows were shattered in the clinic’s adult department, with the most extensive damage occurring in two examination rooms. The healthcare facility remained open and continued to receive patients under its normal operating schedule.
Yaroslavl Region Governor Mikhail Yevraev said vehicle traffic leaving Yaroslavl toward Moscow had been temporarily halted for security reasons.
Ukrainian media claimed that the drones targeted the Yaroslavl oil refinery, described as one of the main fuel suppliers to Moscow and the surrounding region.
Two people killed in the Belgorod region
Acting Belgorod Region Governor Alexander Shuvayev said two men were killed in the Shebekino district. One of those killed was identified as an emergency medical worker.
Shuvayev said nine people were injured in Belgorod and Shebekino districts, including two emergency medical workers. Two of the injured were receiving treatment in hospital, while the others were discharged for outpatient care.
The acting Belgorod Region governor also said the region had come under attack 136 times. Artillery and multiple-launch rocket systems were used in five of the incidents, while explosives dropped from drones were used in eight.
