Russia’s Defense Ministry announced that energy and communications infrastructure was targeted in overnight attacks on Ukraine. The ministry said the attacks were carried out using ground-launched high-precision weapons and long-range armed unmanned aerial vehicles, adding that the targets included facilities used by the Ukrainian army and military industry.
According to the ministry’s statement, the ATM Ukrsibbank data processing center in Kyiv, where internet data traffic was said to be routed to gather intelligence on the Russian army, was hit. The Darnytsia Thermal Power Plant and Kyiv Thermal Power Plant No. 5, which supply electricity to military-industrial facilities, were also among the targets.

The Kyiv-6 and Trypillia thermal power plants, which supply electricity to military logistics facilities in the Kyiv region, as well as the Kyiv electricity substation, were reported to have been hit. In Kharkiv and the surrounding area, the Kharkiv-5 and Zmiivska thermal power plants were targeted.

Russia says 902 UAVs were destroyed
Russia’s Defense Ministry said air defense systems destroyed 902 Ukrainian UAVs in various regions between 8 p.m. local time the previous day and 8 a.m. The statement said the largest number of UAVs were neutralized in and around Moscow.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said 493 UAVs had been directed toward the Moscow region overnight. Sobyanin said 180 UAVs approaching the capital had been destroyed.
Zelenskyy calls for an energy ceasefire and sanctions
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv had been hit by ballistic missiles and that Thermal Power Plant No. 4 in the capital had been targeted. Zelenskyy said the allies had not warned Ukraine again about the attack.
Zelenskyy recalled that U.S. President Donald Trump had announced three days earlier that a ceasefire had been reached between Russia and Ukraine to halt attacks on energy infrastructure. Arguing that Russia had not complied with the announcement, Zelenskyy said Trump should impose heavy sanctions on Moscow.
The Ukrainian president said 39 ballistic missiles and more than 120 UAVs had been used in the attacks. Zelenskyy said 26 sites at electricity, natural gas and oil facilities had been damaged and that at least 600,000 people had been left without electricity.
Ukraine’s grid operator Ukrenergo also reported power outages on Oct. 14 in parts of Kyiv as well as in the Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Khmelnytskyi regions. The company said outages were also recorded in the Ukrainian-controlled parts of the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.

Five people killed in Ukraine
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service announced that three people were killed and 21 injured in attacks on Kyiv. The statement said the city of Dnipro was also targeted, killing two civilians and injuring six people.
