Russia continues its sanctions against foreign social media platforms. The Tagansky District Court in the capital Moscow has ruled on cases against Twitch, Telegram and Pinterest.
The court ruled that these platforms failed to fulfill their legal obligations in the country by not removing banned content. As a result, Twitch, Telegram and Pinterest were each fined 3.5 million rubles in administrative penalties. The total fines imposed on the three platforms reached 10.5 million rubles.
Russia has previously imposed various fines on foreign social media companies for failing to remove banned content and violating legal obligations. Telegram has been completely blocked in the country for violating laws, while Twitch has faced periodic access restrictions.
