Following new attacks targeting central Ukraine, Poland deployed fighter jets on preventive missions to protect its airspace. Poland’s Armed Forces Operational Command said the attacks were attributed to Russia and that the air force had been activated.
The command said the operation was aimed particularly at protecting airspace over eastern Poland.
Russian Defense Ministry’s statement
Russia’s Defense Ministry said that military-industrial facilities in Ukraine, along with telecommunications and logistics centers in the Kyiv and Odesa regions, had been targeted in a comprehensive overnight attack.
The ministry said that vessels used in support of the interests of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had also been affected by the attacks.
Flight costs of Poland’s F-16s
Official data from Poland’s Defense Ministry and responses to parliamentary inquiries show that one hour of flight for the country’s F-16 fighter jets costs 76,000–77,000 zlotys. This figure is equivalent to approximately $21,000.
In Poland, the regular deployment of fighter jets due to air activity in Ukraine alleged to have originated from Russia is imposing a high cost on the national budget.
