Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said in a presentation at the international Nutrition: The Path to the Nation’s Health Congress in Mineralnye Vody that a normal weight could reduce the risk of premature death from all causes.
In his presentation on Sept. 23, Murashko said maintaining a body mass index between 20 and 25 could lower the risk of early death. He made the assessment in the context of the relationship between normal weight and health risks.
Murashko said both low body weight and excess weight significantly increase the risk of early death. The Russian health minister also said unhealthy products should be replaced with nutritious foods rather than simply being removed from the diet.
