In the nighttime attack by Russian forces on Kharkiv, the city's Kholodnohirskyi district was targeted. Local officials announced that more than 40 homes were damaged and at least 6 people were injured in the attack.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said the attack was carried out with glide bombs. Ukraine's Air Force issued an air raid alert around 3:30 a.m. local time regarding the launch of a glide bomb.
Officials stated that the full extent of the damage and the condition of the injured were not immediately clear. After the attack, inspections and damage assessments continued in the area.
City targeted again
Kharkiv, due to its proximity to the front line, has been frequently targeted throughout the war. Recent attacks in the past week have also caused significant damage.
On June 15, in a Russian double-tap attack, four emergency responders who arrived at the scene after the initial strike were killed and six others injured. A day earlier, a drone attack on the Kharkiv Art Museum caused a major fire, wounding four people including a one-month-old baby.
The latest attack on Kharkiv came the day after Ukraine's largest drone attack on the Russian capital Moscow since the start of the war. That attack reportedly damaged the Moscow Oil Refinery.
The nighttime attack caused damage to many residences in the city, while initial reports on the number of injured were limited to at least six. Local authorities expect further details on the damage to become clear during the day.
