In Russia, employees remain covered by social security for a certain period even after the termination of their employment. According to experts, if an illness occurs within 30 calendar days after leaving a job, individuals retain the right to receive sickness benefits.
Associate Professor Igor Balynin of the Financial University explained that the amount of this benefit is calculated at 60% of the average earnings over the last two years, regardless of the length of employment. The payments are financed from insurance premiums previously paid by the employer.
The sick leave payment for the first three days is made by the former employer. From the fourth day onward, all costs are borne by the Russian Social Fund. This arrangement serves as part of the social safety net for citizens who become unemployed during transition periods.
