Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, is hosting German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, who is visiting with defense cooperation and preparations for the approaching winter on his agenda.
The visit, which began on Saturday, also aims to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, celebrated on August 24.
Energy and critical infrastructure on the agenda
The talks will focus on providing generators and other energy equipment needed during the winter months, supporting Ukraine’s energy sector and implementing measures to protect critical infrastructure.
Germany’s Foreign Office described Ukraine as an important security partner. The ministry said Ukraine’s experience in countering hybrid threats, modern warfare and strengthening the resilience of state and social structures could also benefit Germany.
Scope of security cooperation
Deepening security and defense cooperation will also be on the agenda during Wadephul’s meetings in Kyiv. The sides are expected to focus on strengthening military capabilities and sharing experience, as well as jointly developing long-term security structures.
