A piece of an unmanned aerial vehicle with an explosive warhead was found near a busy intersection in Kiev’s Shevchenkivskyi district. Police reported that the discovery followed a heavy attack on the capital the previous night.
The incident was reported to the emergency line 102, and teams were quickly dispatched to the scene. Security forces cordoned off the area where the piece was found, stopping nearby traffic.
After the investigation team documented the finding at the scene, the area was handed over to ammunition experts. Police announced that the piece was later taken to a special testing site for controlled disposal.
Initial Assessment: Geran-2 Type Warhead
According to the police’s initial assessment, the found piece was the warhead of a Geran-2 type drone used in the combined attack launched by Russia on Ukrainian territory. Authorities stated that the finding has been recorded as a new crime attributed to the Russian Federation.
It was previously announced that during the same wave of attacks, Ukrainian air defense shot down about 600 drones and 50 missiles. Kiev was reported to be the main target of the assault.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also said that two Russian drones specifically targeted the area where Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and the Mystetskyi Arsenal are located. The detection of the explosive warhead piece in the capital indicated that security sweeps continued following the night attack.
