Yabloko's exclusion from the electoral process and the criminal prosecutions brought against party officials led the European Union to place 10 Russian officials on its sanctions list.

The EU accused the officials of supporting the suppression of democratic opposition in Russia and of seriously undermining democracy and the rule of law. The sanctions include freezing assets held in European Union countries and imposing travel bans.
Decision to exclude Yabloko from the ballot
The list includes a Russian Supreme Court judge who ruled last month that Yabloko's federal party list would not be placed on the ballot. The court cited violations involving the use of foreign funding, campaign materials distributed on restricted foreign platforms and copyright rules.
Two judges who upheld the decision, as well as a Central Election Commission official and a prosecutor who participated in the case, were also included among the targets of the EU sanctions.
Cases against Yabloko members
Sanctions were also imposed on two judges and two state prosecutors involved in proceedings linked to the imprisonment of Yabloko members. They include officials involved in the case against Lev Shlosberg, the former head of the party's Pskov regional branch.
Another judge who fined Yabloko Chairman Nikolai Rybakov after he shared a photograph of the late Kremlin critic Aleksey Navalny was also added to the sanctions list.
Yabloko's position in the elections
Yabloko, Russia's oldest liberal party, was the only registered political party to run a campaign advocating peace in the 2026 State Duma elections. After being excluded from the federal-list election, the party also faced interference by officials, police detentions and the disqualification of its candidates in single-member districts.
Yabloko was also barred from almost all regional legislative elections. Novgorod, in northwestern Russia, was the only place where the party managed to clear the 5 percent electoral threshold required to win a seat in a regional legislature.
EU decision on Ukrainian children
On the same day, the European Union also imposed sanctions on 27 individuals and entities accused of involvement in the forced deportation of Ukrainian children and indoctrination activities.
