The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it carried out a comprehensive attack on military industrial facilities, airports, and logistical infrastructure in Ukraine. This operation was conducted in response to Ukraine's attacks on civilian targets on Russian territory. The attacks were carried out using land, sea, and air elements, employing high-precision weapons and hypersonic "Kinzhal" missiles.
Ministry spokesman General Igor Konashenkov stated that all targets were successfully hit and that more than 1,300 military targets in Western Ukraine were destroyed. Additionally, it was reported that Russian air defense shot down American-made HIMARS rockets and 390 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles. On the battlefield, it was noted that the village of Nikolaevka near Donetsk was recaptured by pro-Russian forces.
The Ukrainian side presents different data regarding losses and damage, so exact figures on the effects of the attack have not yet been clarified. Russia announced that the Ukrainian army lost more than 1,190 soldiers and foreign mercenaries in various regions, and a large number of armored vehicles, artillery, and electronic warfare systems were destroyed.
Furthermore, it was reported that Colonel Aleksandr Borshch, commander of the 92nd Mechanized Division of Ukraine, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Russian court for terrorism. Borshch was accused of launching an attack from the Kharkiv region to Russia's Belgorod region in October 2023 and is internationally wanted.
Official statements and details regarding the scale of the attacks and mutual losses may become clear in the coming days. The process will be monitored with new statements from the parties and international observations.
