China's Foreign Ministry rejected claims that the People's Liberation Army trained Russian soldiers on its own soil.
Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told the Global Times newspaper that the claims were "completely baseless" and "aimed at smearing China".
At a press conference on Monday, July 6, Mao said that China has adopted an "objective and impartial" position since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and favors a political solution.
German media claims and diplomatic fallout
German media had previously reported, citing European intelligence sources, that the Chinese military secretly trained around 200 Russian soldiers late last year.
Following these reports, China's Ambassador to Berlin, Deng Hongbo, was summoned to the German Foreign Ministry on July 3.
