Belgorod Region Governor Aleksandr Shuvayev reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces' (VSU) attack on the region's life-support infrastructure was the largest and most intense since the start of the special military operation.
In a statement on his Telegram channel, Shuvayev said, "According to the joint assessment of experts, the enemy has carried out a life-support infrastructure attack of this scale for the first time since the start of the special military operation."
The attacks targeted Belgorod and the Belgorod region on Friday morning. One woman was killed and one person injured in the rocket attack. Sixty-eight apartments in five buildings were damaged, and energy infrastructure was hit. On Saturday night, the region came under heavy attack again; infrastructure facilities were damaged, electricity and water outages occurred, and fires broke out at some points.
The governor stressed that despite the scale of the attack, municipal and emergency teams, healthcare workers, and rescue crews worked in a coordinated, fast, and effective manner. "For the second day, since the morning attack on July 3, all units have been working non-stop to restore water and electricity supply," he said.
Shuvayev noted that a significant stock of generators had been built up and preparations made for backup power lines. He said work is currently underway to connect residential areas and homes to these lines, and that electricity and water have been restored in many parts of Belgorod and its surroundings.
"Our forecast for a full return to normal remains the same; we will restore electricity and water to all homes in the city and region within the day," he added.
