The physical store network of Turkish retail brands in Russia appears to have contracted. When the war began, 32 Turkish brands operated 655 stores in Russia, but that figure declined in the following years.
In 2026, Madame Coco, Chakra, NetWork, OXXO, Beymen Club, Karaca Home and Les Benjamins appear to have exited the Russian market or decided to close all their stores in the country. Mudo appears to have completed its withdrawal from Russia in 2025, while Ipekyol and Twist closed their stores in 2023 after operating there for one year.
The number of Turkish companies that have withdrawn from, or decided to withdraw from, Russia’s physical retail sector over the past four years appears to have reached at least 10. In a study covering the first half of 2026, Turkish brands accounted for 15% of the 39 brands that reduced their store counts, left physical retail or experienced serious financial difficulties.
Factors cited for the retreat from Russia include rising operating expenses and tax burdens, weaker consumer demand, declining shopping mall traffic, high rental and financing costs, low brand recognition and the rise of online marketplaces.
During the same period, shopping mall traffic in Russia declined by 2%, while visitor numbers at clothing and footwear stores fell by 5%.
