Trade between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan rose more than threefold in 2025 compared with the previous year, reaching $795 million. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that, alongside economic relations, cooperation between the two countries had also expanded in transport, logistics, education, science, and cultural and humanitarian fields.
In an interview with the Uzbekistan National News Agency, Aliyev said Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan do not view the Organization of Turkic States merely as a platform for intergovernmental cooperation. The organization, Aliyev said, is an important union that carries their shared history, culture and spiritual values into the future and strengthens integration among Turkic states.
Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan ties reach allied status
Aliyev said relations between the two countries are based on their shared history, culture, language and spiritual values, as well as unity, solidarity and mutual affinity between their peoples. He said this foundation was also reflected in relations between the two states.
Aliyev said relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan had entered an unprecedented stage of development in recent years and, after reaching their highest level, had attained allied status. The president said the relationship had gained new substance during this process.
Trade also rose in 2026
Aliyev said commercial and economic cooperation between the two countries was developing rapidly, adding that trade rose 33% in January-May 2026 compared with the same period of the previous year, reaching $144 million.
Joint projects from Fuzuli to Tashkent
Aliyev said joint projects were expanding economic cooperation and creating new development opportunities. He cited the pomegranate orchard called the “Friendship Garden,” established on 100 hectares in the Fuzuli district, which was liberated from occupation, as one of these projects.
Aliyev said Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan were also cooperating in the production of Chevrolet and Isuzu vehicles, adding that joint efforts between the two countries had spread across different sectors.
Aliyev also discussed Azerbaijan’s investments in Uzbekistan, pointing to The Ritz-Carlton-branded hotel and residential complex built by PASHAHolding in Tashkent. The Sea Breeze Uzbekistan tourism and residential complex in the Tashkent region was also listed among Azerbaijan’s investments.
The “C6” format and cooperation in Eurasia
Aliyev said Azerbaijan’s participation in the “C6” format contributed to strengthening cooperation among countries and regions.
Aliyev said the dialogue and cooperation mechanisms established within this platform would not only improve intergovernmental relations, adding that they also served peace, stability and sustainable progress across Eurasia.
