The United States’ new sanctions on Iran were the main focus of a meeting of businesspeople held at the Iranian Embassy in Baghdad. Iranian Parliament Speaker Kalibaf said during a meeting with Iranian and Iraqi businesspeople that economic planning was needed to counter the sanctions.
Kalibaf said Iran was not in favor of war but would defend the country’s dignity, security and values. Claiming that the resources of Muslim countries were being targeted, Kalibaf said planned action was needed to resist unjust sanctions.
The Iranian Parliament speaker said national currencies could be used in trade and the influence of the US dollar could be reduced. Describing businesspeople as important actors in the economic struggle, Kalibaf highlighted the need to strengthen financial circulation, economic growth and domestic production.
Economic resilience addressed alongside security
Kalibaf said Iran’s military strength remained intact but noted that military capacity alone could not guarantee the country’s survival. Saying that security could not be lasting without economic support, Kalibaf stressed that economic resilience must be assessed together with security policies.
Kalibaf argued that the United States had turned to economic warfare because it had seen that military methods had failed to produce results, and said businesspeople were the actors on the ground in this struggle.
Abdullahi announces response to threats
Iranian Chief of Staff Major General Ali Abdullahi also pointed to the defense industry’s role in protecting Iran’s security and dignity in a message he sent to the Ministry of Defense on the occasion of Defense Industry Day.
Abdullahi said progress in the defense industry had gone beyond the production of military equipment and had increased deterrence capabilities. Saying that the Iranian Armed Forces were prepared in the land, maritime, air, defense, space and cyber domains, Abdullahi announced that threats would be met with a response.
