German Chancellor Friedrich Merz faced an unexpected claim during a press conference following his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Berlin.
Speaking at the conference, Merz denied the issue, saying, 'I have no knowledge of a secret Germany-Russia meeting.'
However, immediately after, President Aliyev spoke and announced that they had confirmed that such a meeting took place in Baku. Aliyev stated that there were records indicating a secret meeting between Germany and Russia in the Azerbaijani capital.
The Azerbaijani leader emphasized that they were not notified and that the country's territory was used without permission.
He stated that on the dates when German officials arrived in Baku, Russian officials also came to the city, and they confirmed this through flight records.
Before Aliyev's remarks, Merz had said, 'We are proposing a meeting, but Putin is not coming to the table, so we continue to support Ukraine.'
