Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had received reports on the consequences of attacks in Odesa, Kharkiv, Pavlohrad and other regions of Ukraine. The Ukrainian president accused Russia of waging a systematic war against global food security.
In a statement on Sunday, August 9, Zelenskyy said repair work was continuing to restore electricity services after an attack on energy infrastructure in and around Odesa. He said the necessary teams were working in the field.
Zelenskyy said residential buildings and a port were damaged in the overnight attacks, adding that eight people were affected in Odesa and aid had been provided to the injured.
Damage in Kharkiv and Pavlohrad
Zelenskyy said a drone struck an apartment building directly in Kharkiv, destroying four floors of the building. Dozens of people were injured and two people were killed in the incident.
Zelenskyy said attacks were carried out near a shopping center and against energy facilities in Pavlohrad, adding that nine people, including four children, were affected in the city.
Zelenskyy said the attacks also targeted the Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Kherson, Sumy, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, as well as the Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions. He said the ballistic attacks were not limited to a single city or settlement.
Zelenskyy calls for more sanctions and air defenses
The Ukrainian president said his country had been attacked within one week with 61 different types of missiles, more than 1,560 attack drones and 1,540 aerial bombs.
Zelenskyy called for increased pressure and sanctions against Russia following the attacks, as well as the provision of more air defense systems to Ukraine.
