Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his evening address on September 26 that Russia is clearly not preparing to stop the war, at least for now. “Putin constantly has some excuse not to meet, not to establish a trilateral format, not to talk, and not to end or stop these killings,” he said.
Zelensky said Russia needs to develop a desire to spend its money on something other than death and to end the war.
He said intensive diplomatic contacts are planned for the coming days and October to change the situation, and called for Senator Lindsey Graham’s sanctions bill and other pressure mechanisms to be applied more forcefully. Meeting members of the US Congress in New York, he had said: “Russia will not end this war without pressure.”
During the UN General Assembly week, Zelensky proposed a trilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
