A 42-year-old woman living in the Odesa region was arrested on charges of state treason during martial law. The court ruled to detain the suspect without the right to bail.
According to the investigation, in December 2025, the woman contacted a person from Russian intelligence via Telegram. Following this contact, she was assigned the task of collecting and transmitting information about the locations of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, military facilities, and critical infrastructure.
Authorities stated that the woman was also tasked with assisting in directing Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian territory. In April, it was reported that the suspect sent photos showing the location, activity, and military equipment of a mobile fire support group belonging to air defense stationed in the city of Chornomorsk to a courier.
Later, the person identified as Russian intelligence gave the woman a new assignment. According to this, the suspect was to travel to the Kyiv region and continue directing attacks on the capital and its surroundings.
For this purpose, it was planned for her to stay in a pre-selected hotel room. The room had a view of the water reservoir on the Dnipro River, known as the Kyiv Sea. The woman later reserved a room for several days, with the option to extend, at a countryside hotel complex in the Kyiv region.
According to the investigation file, the suspect purchased a smartphone and equipped it with software that allowed remote access by Russian intelligence operatives. She then traveled from the Odesa bus terminal to the designated location.
It was reported that she remained in constant contact with her courier throughout the journey, clarifying travel details together and receiving instructions to maintain secrecy at the countryside hotel complex. Authorities noted that this contact continued during the trip.
Upon arrival, the woman placed the prepared phone by the window using a tripod, concealed the device, and set it to continuously stream the view of the water reservoir. The surveillance reportedly lasted about two weeks.
According to the security service, the data obtained during this period was used by the Russian side to monitor the situation in Kyiv and the Kyiv region and to coordinate missile and drone attacks. The agency assesses that the suspect played a role in one of the largest Russian attacks on Kyiv on May 24, 2026.
