US intelligence circles are examining Moscow's possible role in Iran's drone attacks on CIA facilities in the Persian Gulf in March. The investigation focuses on whether Russia provided targeting information or advanced drone technology support in these attacks on at least two secret facilities.
Former CIA station chief and covert operations officer Daniel Hoffman said it would not be surprising if Moscow provided such assistance to Tehran. Hoffman said, "They have a shared interest in completely reducing or eliminating US influence in their self-defined spheres of influence."
Russia is known to have provided Iran with advanced Shahed drone technology and the Kometa-M navigation system. However, the Kremlin denied claims that the Kometa-M system was transferred. No casualties were reported in the attacks.
