US imports of sweetened carbonated drinks from Russia hit a historic record in May. Data from the US official statistics agency showed that imports rose to $491,500 in the month.
This figure represents a 3.4-fold increase compared to the $144,900 recorded in April, the previous month. Thus, May's imports marked the highest monthly value seen since 2003.
Meanwhile, US imports of Russian mineral water also saw a significant rise over the same period. Mineral water imports reached $171,900 in May, up 56 percent from the $110,300 level in April.
