The sanctions measure targeting Russia was sent to President Donald Trump for signature following a vote in the US House of Representatives. The Lindsey O. Graham Sanctions Against Russia and Iran Act, which provides for sanctions against Russia and Iran, was approved on Wednesday by a vote of 262 to 159.
The text was prepared in memory of the late Senator Lindsey Graham. The vote showed that the bill had strong bipartisan support.
The bill also passes the Senate
The bill passed the Senate last month by a vote of 86 to 11. The version approved by the House was thus sent to President Donald Trump for signature.
Scope of the sanctions targeting Russia
The measure provides for primary and secondary sanctions against actors supporting Russia's war in Ukraine. Russian officials, oligarchs, their family members, foreign individuals, and Russian banks and financial institutions are among the targets.
The bill also authorizes the imposition of targeted customs duties on products imported from countries that purchase a large share of Russian oil or natural gas and help circumvent the sanctions.
