UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed held a meeting with Prime Minister Robert Fico in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. One of the main agenda items of the meeting was the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy trade, and the potential repercussions of the tension there on the region and Europe.
In a joint statement, a call was made to ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz, where escalating tensions between the US and Iran threaten navigation and energy supply. The Slovak side stressed the importance of fully implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026.
The two leaders agreed that the memorandum of understanding signed last July should be implemented to restore freedom of navigation and maritime security in the strait. Slovakia reiterated its support for finding a peaceful resolution to the dispute.
The meeting also reviewed bilateral economic and investment cooperation. Joint projects in transport, investment and agriculture were discussed, and the commitment to enhance cooperation in high-potential areas was reaffirmed. The meeting was described as a continuation of Prime Minister Fico's official visit to the UAE in October 2025 and the maintenance of top-level dialogue.
Slovakia welcomed the UAE's role in supporting regional and international stability, and pointed to the importance of continued coordination on issues of common interest.
