The Russian Investigative Committee announced the detention of two young individuals in connection with an assassination attempt investigation targeting a person working at a scientific-production facility in Moscow.
According to the investigation, on the evening of June 9, a Zeekr brand vehicle exploded in a parking lot in the city. Authorities later reported that a suspicious device was found under the vehicle and that security forces intervened.
It was stated that the detainees are two minors, one female and one male. According to the investigation authorities, the girl, following instructions from directing individuals, took an explosive device from her hiding place and handed it over to the boy.
The boy is alleged to have placed a GPS tracking device on the vehicle belonging to the targeted individual along with the explosive device. The identity of the targeted employee has not been disclosed.
Some reports suggest that this person might be an employee working at the "Polyus" research institute technopark within Rostec. However, this information has not been officially confirmed.
The two young detainees are being investigated on charges of attempted murder and illegal preparation, transfer, storage, and transportation of explosive materials. Authorities are also examining whether the pair were involved in similar acts.
On the same day, another vehicle exploded in the Aviatorov neighborhood of Balashikha district in Moscow, and the driver of a BMW X3 died. Russian authorities have not disclosed the identity of the deceased.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated on June 10 that Vladimir Putin was informed about the explosion but did not provide further details.
