U.S. President Trump said tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz was continuing and that they did not want to hold talks with Iran soon. Trump made the remarks after a decree-signing ceremony in the Oval Office while answering questions about Iran.
Arguing that the Strait of Hormuz was open and under U.S. control, Trump said, "Last night, we had 24 tankers go through the strait. We are constantly sending tankers through."
Trump said it was important for them that the strait remained open to tanker traffic. He said a significant amount of oil passed through the Strait of Hormuz every day and was distributed around the world.
Assessment of military operations
Trump said that the Strait of Hormuz being open did not mean that military operations had ended, and claimed that nothing could pass into Iran.
Arguing that Iran was facing serious economic difficulties and that soldiers' salaries could not be paid, Trump claimed that the country's military capacity had also been largely destroyed.
Statement on negotiations with Iran
Asked whether they were considering returning to negotiations with Iran soon, Trump said they did not want to talk to Iran. Trump said they had no intention of holding talks or taking any other step.
