The European Union continues to transfer proceeds from frozen assets under sanctions against Russia to Ukraine. The European Commission announced that €1.4 billion in interest income from frozen assets of the Russian Central Bank has been booked into the EU budget and will be directed to Ukraine.
The Commission said the amount covers income for the first half of 2026 and marks the fifth transfer from frozen Russian assets. With these transfers, total proceeds from the frozen assets have reached €8 billion.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said, "Russia must pay for the destruction it has caused. These funds are being directed precisely for that purpose." Von der Leyen stated that an additional €1.4 billion from frozen Russian assets would be allocated to Ukraine, and stressed that these resources would help Kyiv sustain its resistance against Russia.
