An unauthorized rooftop tour operation in St. Petersburg, which allegedly endangered the lives of tourists, has become the subject of an investigation. A 29-year-old man suspected of organizing unauthorized tours on the roof of a building on Nevsky Prospekt was detained by law enforcement.
According to a statement from the St. Petersburg Investigative Committee, a criminal case has been opened against the suspect, who is reportedly from the Tula region, under paragraph 'a' of part 2 of Article 238 of the Russian Criminal Code, for 'provision of services that endanger the safety of life and health.'
The investigation is based on the discovery that in July, the suspect took tourists to the roof of the building in question to show them views of the city. Authorities noted that such unauthorized activities pose a serious risk to the life and health of participants.
The suspect, currently in custody, is still being questioned. Authorities are considering whether to impose a measure of restraint such as remand in custody or judicial supervision.
