Serbian leader Vučić says US will influence Serbia's energy policies for years to come
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić told the Financial Times that the United States will have influence over Serbia's energy sector for years and decades to come.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said the US will shape his country's energy future. In a statement to the Financial Times, Vučić said, "When it comes to the energy sector, the Americans could really have influence and sway for years and decades to come."
The Serbian leader made the remarks after announcing in June that they were preparing a multi-billion dollar contract with the US for the construction of the region's largest pumped-storage hydroelectric plant.
The energy cooperation between Belgrade and Washington is based on a strategic cooperation agreement signed in September 2024. The agreement entered into force in March 2025.
