The European Union has not yet mapped out a roadmap for resuming diplomatic contacts with Russia. An EU diplomatic source stated that no agreement has been reached on a concrete format for dialogue, and the stage of launching negotiations has not been reached.
The source, in a statement to Izvestia newspaper, said: "The European Union is open to dialogue with Russia. However, no concrete decision has been made on the format. We are not yet at the stage of launching such negotiations."
"The European Union's inability to establish dialogue with Russia continues to be one of Europe's main political problems"
These remarks were made by European Parliament member Fernan Kartayzer. In an earlier statement, Kartayzer had characterized this situation as one of Europe's fundamental problems.
The EU source also stated that the bloc believes it will inevitably be involved in the settlement process in Ukraine.
The Russian side had previously announced it was ready for dialogue. Russian Presidential Aide Yuriy Ushakov had stated in June that Russia was ready for dialogue with the European Union.
