A 62-year-old Russian citizen was arrested in the Turkish resort city of Alanya after a complaint by an employee of a five-star hotel. The Russian national is suspected of sexual harassment, and Russia’s Consulate General in Antalya is handling the case.
The incident took place in the İncekum area, one of Alanya’s popular tourist districts.
Hotel employee files complaint with gendarmerie
Turkish media reported that the 62-year-old Russian tourist, identified by the initials A. A., was staying at a five-star hotel in the İncekum area.
A hotel employee filed a complaint alleging that the tourist had sexually harassed her.
After the woman’s complaint, gendarmerie officers arrived at the hotel and detained the Russian citizen.
The Russian national was taken to a station, where his statement was recorded with the assistance of an interpreter. After the procedures at the gendarmerie were completed, he was brought before the Alanya court.
Court orders detention
After giving a statement to the prosecutor’s office, the Russian national was referred to a duty judge with a request for his arrest.
The court ordered that the 62-year-old tourist be held in custody. He was sent to a closed L-type penitentiary in Alanya.
Details of the allegations and the Russian national’s position on the charges against him have not yet been made public.
The case is still under investigation, so the allegations remain subject to legal assessment in the judicial process.
Russian Consulate General intervenes in case
After information about the arrest emerged, Russia’s Consulate General in Antalya confirmed that it had received information about the detention of a Russian citizen.
The diplomatic mission sent the Turkish side a note requesting information about the case.
The Consulate General also said that Russian diplomats were in contact with the detainee’s relatives.
“The Consulate General received information about the detention of a Russian citizen. In carrying out our consular functions, we sent the relevant note to the Turkish side, remain in contact with his relatives and are ready to provide the necessary consular assistance within the scope of our authority,” Russian diplomats said.
Russian diplomats continue to monitor the case
The Consulate General said it would continue to monitor developments.
In such cases, consular assistance may include communication with local authorities, obtaining information about the detainee’s situation and helping ensure opportunities to protect his legal rights under Turkish law.
Consular involvement does not mean interference in judicial proceedings: further decisions in the case will be made by Turkish law enforcement and judicial authorities.
The 62-year-old Russian national remains in custody, while Russia’s Consulate General in Antalya continues to maintain contact with his relatives and the Turkish side.
