The Russian team won a cup and three placement diplomas at the International Engineering and Space Competition in China. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said on August 17 that the team consisted of 11 students, four of whom came from Moscow.
Russia participated in the competition for the first time, while the team competed against teams from nine countries for top honors.
Students design a space city in the asteroid belt
Global Future Space Scholars Meet was organized as a space-themed engineering project competition and business simulation rather than in the format of a traditional Olympiad.
As part of this year’s task, participants prepared a project for an industrial space city planned for construction in the asteroid belt. The evaluation took into account the projects’ engineering and scientific foundations, feasibility, teamwork, presentation quality and responses to questions.
Roscosmos mentors took part in the preparations
The Russian team’s preparations were carried out under the guidance of mentors from a central university and Roscosmos. Sobyanin congratulated the students on their awards and wished them further success and the development of new scientific projects.
