Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and special representative of the Russian President for investment-economic cooperation with foreign countries, reacted to former US President Donald Trump's statements about UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Trump's Comments
Dmitriev said, "The potential resignation of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is uniting everyone." This statement was a response to Trump's view that Starmer would resign due to failures in immigration and energy policies.
In an assessment last Sunday, Trump expressed the opinion that Starmer would resign because of the failure of his immigration and energy policies.
Alien Joke and Dmitriev's Comment
The former US president, in a joke made on June 10, implied that if aliens made contact with humanity, it would be easier to persuade the British prime minister to step down.
Referencing Trump's joke, Dmitriev concluded, "It took the aliens less than two weeks to persuade Starmer to resign."
Resignation Rumors and Denials
The Telegraph newspaper, citing sources in a report last Saturday, wrote that Starmer's inner circle believed he was preparing to resign and could announce it on Monday.
However, UK Business Secretary Peter Kyle, in a statement early Sunday, denied reports that the prime minister had any such intention.
Internal Party Pressures
About 100 Labour Party MPs demanded Starmer's resignation after the party's failure in the May local elections.
This number increased further after Starmer's rival, Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, attempted to enter parliament with the aim of removing the prime minister from office.
