The Russian Consulate General in Hong Kong issued a safety advisory for its citizens planning to visit the region. Consulate spokesperson Ekaterina Bogucharskaya warned about risks from wildlife in Hong Kong and Macau.
In an interview with RIA Novosti, Bogucharskaya noted that mosquitoes are the most common problem, especially during hot and humid seasons. "Dengue fever cases are recorded at certain times. Therefore, we recommend using insect repellent for protection," the consul said.
The diplomat stressed the importance of staying on designated trails during hikes and visits to nature reserves, and urged caution in grassy and rocky terrain. Bogucharskaya pointed out that venomous snakes are present in the area.
In green areas on the city's outskirts, there is a possibility of encountering wild boars and monkeys. "They are generally timid and avoid contact with people. However, if you encounter them, it is important to remain calm and not provoke the animals with your behavior," the Russian diplomat said.
Despite all these risks, Bogucharskaya underlined that the wildlife situation in Hong Kong and Macau is generally safe.
