Japan’s deployment of US-made Typhon-type missile systems on Kyushu Island drew a reaction from Russia. Moscow demanded that Tokyo withdraw the systems from Japanese territory.
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said in a written statement published on Friday that the systems had been deployed on Kyushu Island.
Zakharova said the Russian Foreign Ministry had delivered a protest note to the Japanese Embassy in Moscow on September 3. The note described the deployment as a threat to Russia’s national security and regional security.
Japan was informed that deploying these systems on its territory for any reason and for any length of time was unacceptable.
Russia demanded that Japan end such practices and remove the Typhon systems from its territory.
Moscow also called on Tokyo to recognize the outcomes of World War II, including in relation to the regional issue concerning the Southern Kuril Islands, and to abandon its rearmament policy.
Zakharova said China had also delivered a protest note to Japan with similar content.
