Russia's Ambassador to Bangkok Yevgeni Tomihin announced that despite geopolitical challenges, Russian and Thai companies have established mutual cashless payment systems for tourists.
Speaking to RIA Novosti, Tomihin said, 'Despite all geopolitical challenges, tour operators and digitalization service providers continue to make progress by creating mutual payment systems for tourism needs.'
The ambassador stated that issuing bank cards for tourists is no longer so relevant, and thanks to new technologies enabling contactless and cashless payments, there is no need for cards.
Tomihin added, 'It appears that the development of our tourism exchanges in terms of financial support will proceed in this direction and will create additional potential for the growth of tourist flow.'
Reminding that in several regions of Thailand, Sberbank's QR code reading system is already used for shopping and service payments, Tomihin said that Thai journalists who attended the St. Petersburg Economic Forum informed him that a mobile application allowing payments from accounts in Thai banks also works in Russia.
