Moscow assessed the United States’ diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict as having gained renewed momentum. Dmitry Peskov, the Russian president’s press secretary, said on September 12 that they hoped these efforts would produce results.
Peskov said they welcomed the peace efforts led by the United States.
Prospects for economic cooperation between the two countries
Peskov said that resuming trade and economic cooperation with the United States could bring significant benefits to both Russia and the United States. He said there was strong interest at the corporate level, but noted that no joint project between companies from the two countries had yet been established.
Contacts after the meeting at the Kremlin
On September 5, Vladimir Putin received Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the US president’s son-in-law, at the Kremlin. The visit was the eighth by Washington representatives to Russia.
Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Putin, said assessments of the situation in the area of the special military operation were conveyed to the US representatives during the meeting. Ushakov said the representatives had pledged to take these assessments into the dialogue with Kyiv.
Witkoff and Kushner traveled to Kyiv on September 6. Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump held a phone call on September 8.
