Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov assessed diplomatic initiatives aimed at resolving the crisis between the United States, Russia and Ukraine in remarks to journalists in Moscow.
Referring to contacts by US President Donald Trump’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Moscow and Kyiv, Peskov said every effective initiative was a small step toward peace. He said the American negotiators attached great importance to peace efforts.
Peskov said the Russian side had not received information about the results of the US representatives’ contacts in Ukraine, adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump could hold a phone call on the matter.
The timeline for trilateral talks remains unclear
Peskov said they had not ruled out restarting trilateral talks between the United States, Russia and Ukraine, but added that it was still too early to discuss where and when the talks would be held.
The Russian spokesman did not answer a question about how different the US negotiators’ proposals were from those presented at the Anchorage summit. He also did not comment on whether the new proposals included contentious issues.
Reaction to Norway’s plan near the Russian border
Peskov also assessed Norway’s plan to deploy an artillery battalion along the Russian border. He argued that the plan was directed against Russia and posed a security threat.
Peskov also announced that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan would visit Russia in the near future.
