Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated on April 30 that the risk of nuclear apocalypse is real and that those who do not recognize this reality are either dreamers or fools. Medvedev argued that the European Union is currently governed by fools and that structures built over decades are being destroyed. Emphasizing that the conflict between Russia and the West is existential, Medvedev said that Europe wants the collapse of Russia.
Medvedev criticized European leaders' statements that war with Russia is inevitable, saying this approach leads to a dangerous spiral. He also stated that Western countries have a direct role in the conflict in Ukraine and provide arms support against Russia. Emphasizing that the US is Russia's main geopolitical rival, Medvedev said that the nuclear weapons of the two countries are mutual targets.
Medvedev warned that the current global situation resembles the period before World War I and that local conflicts could lead to a global conflict. He said that conflicts in the Middle East will last long and that many countries want to maintain this situation. Regarding claims about Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons, he added that Russia has no evidence.
Medvedev stated that negotiations in international relations can work to a limited extent but generally conflicts cannot be resolved through agreements.
