Lukashenko stresses cooperation in Indonesia: ‘We are ready for serious work’
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko held official talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta. The two leaders agreed to strengthen economic and political dialogue between their countries.
Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with his Indonesian counterpart Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta, where he was on an official visit.
A formal welcoming ceremony was held before the meeting. The ceremony included a guard of honor, the playing of both national anthems, a cannon salute, and folk dance performances. Lukashenko’s motorcade was escorted to the Independence Palace in Jakarta by a motorcycle honor guard and more than a hundred mounted cavalry.
After the introduction of the delegations, Lukashenko signed the guest book. Following a photo opportunity, the leaders proceeded to official talks.
Lukashenko: ‘There is plenty to do in Indonesia’
Speaking during the restricted meeting, Lukashenko said he believed there was enough work in Indonesia for Belarus. ‘As I prepared for this visit and find myself in Indonesia for the second time during my presidency, I firmly believe there is plenty of work here for Belarusians. We are ready to work seriously to achieve the goals you have set for your vast people and great country,’ he said.
Lukashenko recalled that talks had been held at the level of government members the previous day and that certain agreements had been reached. ‘Our ministers met yesterday and discussed the main directions of our work. I believe agreements were reached on many issues,’ the Belarusian leader said.
Emphasizing that the agreements reached must be implemented without getting bogged down in bureaucracy, Lukashenko said the productive talks he had with Subianto the previous day would lay the foundation for developing Belarus-Indonesia relations.
Lukashenko emphasizes shared historical values
In the expanded format talks, Lukashenko drew historical parallels between the two countries. ‘After your 2024 election, thanks to your active independent stance, political dialogue and economic ties between our countries have visibly revived,’ the Belarusian leader said.
Lukashenko noted that cooperation is based on mutual respect and readiness to support each other internationally, and despite the geographical distance, Belarusians and Indonesians share many commonalities.
Noting that Indonesia's national emblem bears the motto ‘Unity in Diversity’ which has been successfully implemented in the country, Lukashenko said, ‘Your people’s strength lies in this unity.’ For Belarusians, he said, the motto ‘Together for a strong and prosperous Belarus!’ serves as an important historical guide.
Stressing that both peoples know the value of sovereignty and independence, Lukashenko said, ‘Both Indonesians and Belarusians defended their sovereignty and independence in the toughest struggles against foreign occupiers. The experience gained in the struggle for self-determination forms the basis of the Belarusian state’s peaceful but firm and consistent policy.’
Lukashenko welcomes Indonesia’s decision to open an embassy in Minsk
Aleksandr Lukashenko welcomed Indonesia’s decision to open an embassy in Minsk. ‘I believe this diplomatic mission will work shoulder to shoulder with the Belarusian embassy in Jakarta and help increase the intensity of contacts between our countries,’ Lukashenko said, adding that the head of the diplomatic mission would receive full support from the Belarusian side.
Lukashenko noted that the involvement of representatives from key institutions showed their mutual commitment to revitalizing cooperation, and joked that the delegations had already settled much of the agenda, easing the leaders’ work. Addressing Subianto, he said, ‘You summed up our talks humorously but accurately: “Thanks to the ministers’ good work, we have almost nothing left to do.” It’s true. We’ll keep moving in this direction.’
